Diego was gone for the weekend. His dad had surgery last week, and he went to see him and spend some time with him. The girls were happy to see him again and hear from him that their grandpa is doing fine and recovering quickly at home.

Favorites // Favoritos (comida/food)

I love all the food that Diego cooks. Specially, the Indian dishes he learned how to make by watching one of his friends from India preparing them. His specialty is potato curry. It looks more or less like the one in the picture (which by the way, was taken from the blog A Mad Tea Party and I believe the ingredients listed there are the same ingredients that Diego uses. But his is less soupy.

And even though this is not food, I love Miguelitos -a powder made of sugar, salt and chile. Apparently, its secret ingredient is lead. But I don´t care!

Note: This picture was taken from the blog meloncorp.com

Summer already?

Even though the calendar says it´s winter, in this part of the world it´s summer already. The temperature has been around the 95-100F for a couple of weeks. In fact, winter was never here. And spring just came for a week to leave us a yellow touch of beautiful blooming trees. But it´s almost gone now. It lasted only a week and I didn´t have time to take pictures. I´m not complaining, though. We love this weather.

Favoritos// Favorites

I haven´t finished posting about my favorite things, and I´ve been tagged again.

Books

It´s sad but I´m not reading anything at the moment. I have several books that I borrowed from the library a month ago, but I haven´t have time to read them. So, I guess I´ll have to renew them in a couple of days. Some of the books I have are:

Poetry Speaks
, an anthology which includes 3 audio CDs; The game of words by Willard R. Espy; and, Noah Webster and the American Dictionary by David Micklethwait.

Carmen reads Mafalda very often. And when she does, she asks me to read it with her.

Music
São Vicente de Longe, Cesária Évora

Há uma música do povo (a poem by Fernando Pessoa),Mariza

I also love to listen to "radio ombligo" (1)("belly button radio"), a radio program that broadcasts music for children, every morning (well, this semester that I´m teaching at 7AM, I just listen to it twice a week.)

(1)If you want to listen to a program you can click on "Escucha el ombligo nuestro de cada dia" to play a program from the archives. Or you can click the play button where it says "transmitiendo desde el cerro del rebote" to listen to songs, not the program.

Movies
I want to watch Fraude

TV
I don´t watch TV. But in the States, I used to watch Law and Order and here, I watched some episodes of The Sopranos a program Diego was addicted to.

Last Tuesday was Diego´s birthday. We gave him a CD and Carmen made him a card. After school, Carmen suggested to go to a Chinese restaurant that Diego likes, to celebrate his birthday. We had a nice dinner, but we didn´t have cake that day. I was planning to make one on the weekend, but today we ended up buying one at the store.

Favoritos// Favorites (ciudades//cities)

3. Ciudades donde he vivido.

3. Cities where I've lived
For a long time Mazatlan was my favorite city. Maybe, because I lived there for 7 years when I was growing up (and that's the longest I've lived in one place.)

As an undergrad, I loved living in Mexico City. Now, I just love to go there on vacations, specially during the last week of Lent when lots of people leave the city to go to the beach or visit other touristic destinations.

Cuernavaca was another city where we had a great time. We went there to write our thesis and went to Mexico City every two weeks. We didn't have kids then, so we could spend most of the time by the pool drinking beers. We also went downtown quiet often to some bars and to an Italian restaurant we really like.

Gainesville, Florida, is another special city for us. We lived there for almost 7 years. We went to grad school, made very good friends from all the world, and had our daughters.

But my favorite city of them all -even though, I've only lived 4 years of my life (when I was in high school)- is La Paz. This is the city where I was born and where I have spent most of my vacations.

Aparecio!//I recovered it!

Estoy feliz! Feliz! Feliz!

I recovered my handbag! The secretary just gave it to me. Somebody returned it to the coordinator's office in one of the universities where I work. I'm so happy! Happy! Happy! Happy!
