De vuelta en "nosotra" casa

Por fin un pequeño respiro, después de tres semanas de trabajar sin parar. Las últimas dos semanas en Gainesville, me quedaba hasta las 11 de la noche en la biblioteca (hora a la que cerraban)restructurando mi proyecto de tesis y consiguiendo material para poder trabajar acá en México y no dejarlo otra vez dormido indefinidamente. Y la primera semana en México fue también una locura. La casa, que se quedo cerrada por dos meses, estaba llena de polvo y bichos muertos y hasta hongos. Así que hubo que dejarla habitable en una tarde. Lo bueno es que vino una señora a ayudarme y mientras ella barría y trapeaba; yo sacudía los muebles y aspiraba sillas, sillones, colchones y cojines. La semana en el trabajo: cinco grupos, cuatro clases diferentes, llegando una semana tarde, con chavos de prepa y con mis hijas que aún no entran a la escuela... Pero bueno, sobrevivimos.

Finally, after working three weeks non-stop, I can take a break today. The last two weeks in Gainesville were pretty hectic. I stayed in the library until it closed at 11 pm getting all the material that I needed to work on my dissertation here in Mexico. And, our first week back home was crazy, too. Our house was dusty. There were dead insects all over the floor, and even fungus on our furniture. A lady came to help me clean it up. While she was sweeping and mopping the floor, I was vacuuming our mattresses and cleaning the furniture. And my week at work: five groups, four different classes, a week late, working with high school students, and bringing my girls to work... But, we survived.

El viaje a Gainesville fue pesado para todos, pero también fueron unas lindas vacaciones. Ocho semanas, en las que pudimos ver a varios viejos amigos y también hicimos nuevos amigos. Compramos cosas que nos hacían falta (nunca en mi vida había entendido esa costumbre de ir al Otro Lado a comprar, hasta ahora), descansamos de las clases (yo sólo daba una clase de español para principiantes de una hora diaria), pudimos leer, ver tv, salir solos, hacer investigación y estar con la abuelita Diana (mi mamá) que fue a ayudarme con las niñas. Gracias, mami. Y gracias a todos los que nos echaron la mano ahora que anduvimos por allá.

Our trip to Gainesville was tough for all of us, but it was a nice vacation. We were there for eight weeks, we saw old friends and made new ones. We bought stuff we needed (I didn't understand that custom of going shopping to the US, now I do), we had a break from our routine, we read, we did research, we watched TV (well, we watch Lost online), we went out a couple of times to drink some beers, and were with my mom, who went to help me with the girls. Thanks, mom. And thanks to all of you who helped us out while we were there.
