when it rains, it pours

• El martes perdi mi bolsa.

• Me acabo de dar cuenta que uno de mis zapatos favoritos tiene un hoyo.

• Se me cayo una amalgama de una muela hace una semana (o dos?).

• Mi carro se esta desbaratando. Bueno, no exactamente pero casi. El sabado, el radiador estaba quemandose. Dos dias despues la bateria estaba muerta.

Definitivamente, necesito una limpia. Aunque en una semana empieza el año de la rata y se supone que sera un buen año. Espero!

Lamentablemente, parece que es en serio. Yo no sabia, pero segun un articulo de la jornada de hace casi dos anhos, si hay islas privadas en Mexico. La Isla Cerralvo, la isla mas cara que esta a la venta es, al parecer propiedad de una familia muy conocida de La Paz.

Well, apparently this is for real. Cerralvo island, according to this site is owned by a well-known family from La Paz. I didn't know there was such a thing as private islands in Mexico.

la cruda realidad//back to reality

Ayer estaba emocionada. Brincaba de alegría, porque me dieron el trabajo que quería en la UNACH, la universidad del estado. Pero hoy sólo se me viene a la mente el comentario de Bush a una señora que tiene tres trabajos, y me deprimo. No estoy en Estados Unidos, pero eso no importa. Cómo es posible que alguien en cualquier parte del mundo diga que es fantástico que alguien TENGA que tener tres trabajos para sobrevivir?

Yesterday, I was thrilled. I was jumping for joy, because I got a job that I wanted at the UNACH state university here in Tuxtla. But today, the only thing that comes to my mind is Bush's comment to a woman that said that she worked three jobs and I get depressed. I'm not in the States, but that doesn't matter. How is it possible that anyone in the world says that it's fantastic to have three jobs, so one can survive?

Just like a comment (similar on nature, not on the topic) made by Fox, the ex president of Mexico, to a woman that said that she didn't know how to read, and he said that was fine, because that way she would live happier.

Pero bueno, no quiero enojarme, ni deprimirme; así que aquí mejor le paro y me voy a planear mis clases.

Anyway, I don't want to get mad or down, so I'll just go back to work on my classes.

Se acabaron las vacaciones. El viernes se fueron los yayos (los papás de Diego), el domingo se fue Carlos y hoy regresaron las niñas a la escuela.



Vacations are over. Diego's parents left last Friday, Carlos took the plane Sunday morning and the girls went back to school today.




Diego y yo empezamos la próxima a dar clases, pero ya empezamos a trabajar aquí en la casa o en la oficina. Yo voy a estar trabajando en tres lugares distintos y además ahora sí voy a trabajar en mi tesis doctoral.

Diego and I start working, in front of a class, next week. But we already started working at home or in the office. We're packed with work. I'm going to be working three jobs and this year I AM also going to work on my dissertation.

Ya era hora/ It was about time

Por fin tenemos telefono. Fueron casi 2 meses de estar practicamente incomunicados y en medio de la nada, pero ya eso se acabo. Hace dos semanas que nos conectaron la linea y lo mas importante es que ya tenemos internet.

We got our phone line a couple of weeks ago. After two months without phone and Internet, I felt that we were in the middle of nowhere, but not anymore!

Finally

Sin quererlo, la semana se convirtio en un mes. No por gusto, desidia o falta de tiempo, sino por que aun no tenemos telefono y por consiguiente no podemos conectarnos a internet. Por eso, la actualizacion de este blog sera todavia esporadica. Ahorita las ninias y yo estamos en La Paz, tomando unas vacaciones no planeadas. Pero esa es otra historia.

Nuestra casa en Morelia ya esta casi lista. Todavia quedan cajas que desempacar y cuadros que colgar. Pero ya esta habitable. Carmen esta feliz, no tuvo ningun shock cultural (aunque si extrania a sus amigos). Le encanta su nueva casa, sobre todo el poder ir caminando a la tiendita de la esquina para comprar una paleta helada o algun dulce.

Tambien esta muy contenta con su nueva escuela. Estuvo llendo al curso de verano y aunque al principio no queria, al tercer dia ya estaba como pez en el agua. Ni se despedia en las manianas, se bajaba corriendo a saludar a sus nuevas amigas. Isabel por otro lado, ha sufrido un poco con esto de la escuela. No le gusta nada. Y eso es lo unico que no termina de gustarme de nuestra nueva vida en Mexico. Pero fuera de eso, estamos todos muy bien. Nos gusta mucho Morelia y sus alrededores. En cuanto tenga oportunidad pondre algunas fotos.

I planned to be gone for a week but it turned out to be a whole month. Not because I forgot or because I didn't have to to write but because we still don't have an internet connection at home (we don't have phone either). So, I still won't be updating this blog regularly. Right now, the girls and I are in La Paz, on last minute vacations, but that's another story.

We stll haven't finished unpacking but we're almost done. There are just a few boxes left waiting to be open and some paintings that need to be hang.

Carmen is really happy in Morelia (she misses her friends, though). She loves her new house, especially walking to a little store that is really close to our house, to buy some candies. She also likes her new school. She went tho the summer camp for 2 weeks and she absolutely loved it. Isabel also likes Morelia, but she just doesn't like going to school. She gets really scared and cries a lot. That's the only thing that I don't like about our new life here in Mexico. But other than that, we are really happy here. We like Morelia a lot. As soon as I can I'll post some pictures.

Contratiempos de viaje/ travel misfortunes

Diego y Jehudiel han tenido varios contratiempos. Primero con el tanque de la gasolina del camion que se derramaba cuando paraban a cargar gasolina. Luego, con la mudanza mexicana que desde hace dos meses se les contacto para que hicieran el jale y salieron con que: "me confirman que no hay camion en la frontera". Ese problema se soluciono facil contratando a otra gente pero lo que ya no se pudo solucionar tan facil fue la importacion del carro. Tambien, desde hace dos meses se contacto al agente aduanal para hacer el tramite y segun ellos no habia problema pero resulta que dura 72 hrs. la importacion. Asi que Diego y Jehudiel pasaran el fin de semana en la ciudad fronteriza de Brownsville, Texas y hasta el martes cruzan la frontera y continuan con el viaje hacia Morelia.

Diego and Jehudiel have had several misfortunes. First of all, they had problems with the gas tank. It was spilling gas. Every time they stopped to fill up the tank the gas would come out. Then, the people of the moving company in Mexico said that they couldn't do the job because there was no truck there (even though Diego contacted them two months ago to do this job). But this problem was solved easily, he just got another person to do the job. The main problem that they faced was importing the car. Diego had also spoken with a agent two months ago to do all the paperwork but he never told him that this process took 72 hrs. So now Diego and Jehudiel are spending their weekend in the border city of Brownsville, Texas. They'll cross the border Tuesday morning to continue with their trip to Morelia.
