At Saint Augustine

A day before my birthday, we went to Saint Augustine to spend the day with new friends. I had hurt my left foot and couldn´t walk, so being at the beach was the best thing ever. I didn´t have to move at all and the girls had a great time.

The next day was my birthday. My foot was better, but I got the flu (not the new flu, though), I had a problem at work, I got all wet because it rained and I didn´t have an umbrella, but at the end I had a great evening. These new friends we went to the beach with, had a cake, ice crean and lemonade to celebrate my birthday by the pool.

Un día antes de mi cumpleaños nos fuimos a pasar el día a San Agustín con unos nuevos amigos. Yo tenía el pie lastimado y no podía caminar, así que estar en la playa, disfrutando del sol, la arena y el mar fue lo mejor que me pudo pasar. No necesite moverme para nada y las niñas se divirtieron mucho.

Al día siguiente fue mi cumpleaños. Mi pie estaba mejor, pero me dio gripa (no la que está de moda), tuve un problema en el trabajo, me empapé porque no tenía paraguas... Pero al final fue un lindo día. Estos nuevos amigos me tenían un pastel, limonada y helado para celebrar mi cumpleaños en el área de la piscina

El cuento

Hoy Isabel se disfrazó de princesa y así disfrazada se puso a jugar a que era la maestra de su hermana. Le dijo que su tarea era escribir una historia. Carmen tomó su cuaderno y escribió este lindo cuento del dragón.

Sleeping over // pijamada

Carmen had her first sleep over last Friday. She had such a great time that she wanted to stay over for another night. But she didn't; instead, her friend stayed over at our house. This was a huge milestone for Carmen.

El viernes pasado, Carmen se fue a dormir a casa de una amiga. Esta es la primera vez que lo hace. La verdad yo no creí que se fuera a quedar, pero me equivoqué. Se la pasó tan bien que quería quedarse una noche más. Pero al final su amiga fue quien vino a dormir a la casa.

llegaron las lluvias // rainy season is here

Hace unos días empezó la temporada de lluvias. Las noches son otra vez frescas y el verde empieza a pintar de nuevo todo el paisaje (no es que antes no estuviera verde, sino que ahora el verde es más intenso).

Y con la lluvia, también salió el nucú. Nos llevamos una sorpresa a principios de la semana cuando nos encontramos ahogadas en la alberquita a un montón de hormigas aladas. En la mañana que salímos a la escuela, algunas todavía estaban revoloteando y otras sin alas, deambulaban por toda la entrada.

The rainy season began a few days ago. The temperature dropped to the 80´s, so our nights are cool and everything is starting to look green again (well, it has been green all the time, the difference is that now the green is brighter.)

And with the rain, these huge ants came out. We found some of them drowned in our pool, others were still flying around and lots of ants with no wings were marching around our front yard.

Paquete de abuelita // a packet from grandma

Hace dos días recibimos un paquete de abuelita para las niñas. Traía un libro, una postal y una cartita para cada una. A las niñas les encantó la sorpresa. Carmen ha estado leyendo su libro todos los días desde que recibimos el paquete, y a Isabel le gusta traer su postal y su cartita de arriba para abajo. Gracias, mami!

A couple of days ago, the girls got in the mail a packet from their grandma. It included two small packets with a book, a postcard and a letter for each of them. The girls loved this unexpected gift! Carmen has read her book every sigle day, and Isabel likes to carry her postcard and her letter everywhere. Thanks, mom!

Aparecio!//I recovered it!

Aparecio mi bolsa! Me la acaban de entregar. Alguien la devolvio ayer a la oficina de la universidad donde trabajo. Estoy feliz! Feliz! Feliz!

I recovered my handbag! The secretary just gave it to me. Somebody returned it to the coordinator's office in one of the universities where I work. I'm so happy! Happy! Happy! Happy!

We got mail!

Hoy nos llego correo, algo verdaderamente poco frecuente. A Carmen le llego una carta de su mejor amiga, Cassidy. Y a mi me llego una tarjeta de navidad de una cyber amiga de Kellymom. Pero Isabel inmediatamente se apropio de la tarjeta y la carta que venia en la tarjeta y dijo que "los correios" eran para ella. Brincaba y cantaba una cancion que se invento y besaba la carta de la emocion por haber recibido dos correios de regalo de navidad y reyes. Estaba verdaderamente emocionada.

We got mail today. This is something that happens once in a blue moon. Carmen got a card and a letter from her best friend Cassidy. And I got a Christmas card and a letter from a cyber-friend from Kellymom. But, Isabel said that "the mails" were for her and didn't want to give them to me. She was singing a song that she made up, kissing the card and the letter, and jumping for joy because she had got some mail for Christmas. She was really excited.

Poetry Speaks

Last Saturday, I went to a breakfast and a meeting at one of my new jobs. When I got there, I was pleasantly surprised to see at the cafeteria, a huge display of books that the library had just bought. And my surprise just got better when I found a lexicography book, that I need for my dissertation; The Lord of the Rings with illustrations -for Carmen; and a poetry anthology, which includes 3 audio CDs with the poems read by their authors. I didn't get the CDs that day, though. I got them three days later.

I haven't been able to listen to them yet. Well, I listened to a couple of the poems already -my curiosity couldn't wait longer- but I'll listen to those CDs right now. The girls are sleeping and I'm waiting for Diego to come home.


El sábado pasado, fui a un desayuno y una junta en una de las universidades donde acabo de empezar a trabajar. Cuando llegué, me sorprendió ver en la cafetería, una exhibición de libros que la biblioteca acaba de adquirir este año. Y mi sorpresa fue mayor cuando encontré un libro de lexicografía, que ocupo para mi tesis; el libro de El Señor de los Anillos, con ilustraciones para Carmen; y una antología de poesía, que incluye tres CDs de audio con los poemas leídos por sus autores.

Los CDs no me los entregaron ese mismo día sino tres días después. Pero no he podido sentarme a escucharlos todavía. Bueno, ya escuché un par de ellos -no aguantaba la curiosidad- . Pero ahorita que las niñas ya están dormidas y mientras espero a Diego, me pondré a escucharlos.
