Bisabuelos // great-grandparents

There are days when Isabel remembers two of her great grandparents: My mom´s dad and my mother-in-law´s mom. She didn´t meet them because they died long before she was born. But she has seen the pictures we have at home, has seen the altars that we set up on the Day of the Dead, and has heard us talking about them.

Usually, she just says that she misses them (I think that´s her way to say she would have liked to meet them) and that she loves them. And then she forgets about them for a while. But for a couple of weeks she has been saying that she misses them, that she´s sad and that she feels like crying because she didn´t get to say good-bye to them and tell them that she loved them.

Then she asks why they don´t wake up like Snow White did and if we would ever get to see them and why did they die.

At the end, she doesn´t like any of my answers and concludes that they got sick and died because they had seen too much sun, too much light, too many stars and too many moons.

Diego was gone for the weekend. His dad had surgery last week, and he went to see him and spend some time with him. The girls were happy to see him again and hear from him that their grandpa is doing fine and recovering quickly at home.

Feliz Día de los Abuelos! //Happy Grandparents' Day!

Today in our way to school, we were listening to "Radio Belly Button" (a children's program)and we found out that today is Grandparents' Day. I don't know if it's only in Mexico or is an International Holiday, but anyway, Happy Grandparent's Day to all the grandparents out there!

Homesick

Diego left yesterday. His final destination is Chiapas, but first he went to Morelia to get his car and take care of some paperwork there.

The girls don't know that he was in Morelia, or maybe they did, they may have overheard something, or maybe is that their dad is gone and that they already miss their home or I don't know what, but the thing is that Isabel started crying that she wanted to go to "Moyeyia." She was really tired and maybe also feeling icky (yesterday was a really hot day). Carmen was ok, but she has also told me several times that she misses her house, her school, her friends and that even though she likes it here, she doesn't feel at home. Hopefully, we'll have a home soon.

On the funny side, Isabel went to the university with her grandma Aurora and while they were waiting for me to finish a class (I'm teaching a Summer course for students from San Diego State University), they saw and greeted many people and someone asked Isabel if she loved her grandma. Isabel replied that she did love her grandma Rosi.

abuelita/grandma

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

My mom was here for a week. We went out only a couple of times because the girls and I got sick. But we still took her to several places, the girls had fun with her grandma, Diego and I went out by ourselves, and we started packing. We already have 40 boxes, approximately. We still need to pack more stuff, but we have a month or so before we move to Chiapas.

Thanks, mom for helping us out! I love you!

Quién es ese señor?/ Who is that man?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Every time I take the girls to ballet, Isabel asks me who is that man in an advertising billboard. When I told her it was a philopher, she said he wasn't, that it was her grandpa. After a brief discussion, she accepted that it was a "philoso", but kept saying that he looked a lot to her grandpa.

abuelita Rosi/grandma Rosi

A ver.
Rosi is Marco's mother-in-law. Marco is a friend from La Paz who has been living in Morelia for a while. He was the one who told Diego we could live in his house while we were looking for one. But when Diego arrived, Marco was out of town, so his in laws received him and helped him a lot. When the girls and I arrived, we went to meet them and Isabel adopted Rosi as her grandma. She isn't a grandma yet. Dani and Marco don't have any children yet. But the girls love having another grandma here in town. They like to visit her, play with Mau (Rosi's son), see Toto (but from the gates because his a really big dog and they are afraid of him), eat candies and watch tv. We were also going to Rosi's house because Carmen wanted to learn to sew. Rosi told her that she would teach her to do some needlework and Carmen was really excited but this excitment lasted only one afternoon. Yesterday she said that she was going to work on her embroidery. We'll see!

Now it was grandpa's turn. My father in law came to visit us this weekend. He brought us a copy of Eduardo's novel (He's Diego's oldest brother). I hope I can start reading it soon. He also brought us a booklet with pictures of his scultpures and some books, a movie and other things that my mom sent us. We had lots of goodies!

Carmen took this picture. We are at a cafe in front of "el conservatorio de las Rosas" a wellknown Music school here in Mexico

Paseo

Aurora, mi mother in law, came to help us last week that Isabel was in the hospital. On Sunday we went with her to Patzcuaro, a town that is 40 min. drive form Morelia.
