festival de invierno // Winter Festival

El último día antes de irnos de vacaciones, Carmen tuvo el festival de invierno de su escuela. Isabel estaba muy emocionada por ver a su hermana en el escenario. Disfrutó mucho todos los bailes y cuando salió el grupo de Carmen Isabel le gritaba y aplaudía. Yo dejé a Isabel con su papá y me acerqué al escenario para tomarle fotos a Carmen. Pero para mi mala suerte, Carmen quedó del otro lado -muy lejos de mí-, y todas las fotos que tomé salieron borrosas. Al final de su canción, que era la que cerraba el festival, lanzaron confetti globos y fuegos artificiales. Pero por tratar de capturar el momento, siento que me perdí del bailable. Pero bueno, las niñas lo disfrutaron mucho.

The last day before we went on vacations, Carmen had her winter festival. Isabel was very excited to see her sister performing on stage. She had a lot of fun dancing and jumping while watching the different groups performed. When it was Carmen´s class turn, Isabel was applauding and yelling her sister´s name. I lef Isabel with her dad to take some pictures but it was just my luck that Carmen was on the other side from where I was, and all the pictures I took were blurry. At the end of their performace, which was the one that closed the event, they threw confetti, balloons and some kind of fireworks; but by trying to capture the moment I feel that I just didn´t see Carmen performing. But, the girls had fun and that´s what matters.

En casa de Lily // At Lily's

Pasamos la tarde con Lily, su hermanito y su mamá.
We spent the afternoon with Lily, her baby brother and her mom.

Las niñas se divirtieron muchísimo. Hicieron las cosas que más les gustan: disfrazarse, dibujar y bailar.

The girls had a lot of fun. They did the three things they love the most: dressing up, drawing and dancing.

Carmen estuvo llendo a un curso de verano de danza folclórica. Iba dos horas diarias toda la semana. Le encantó, pues hizo varias amigas y además la clase era divertida. Tuvo un muy buen maestro. Calentaban con música moderna (merengues, cumbias). Luego practicaban un par de bailes folclóricos y terminaban jugando juegos tradicionales infantiles.

Carmen went to folkloric dance lessons this summer. She had a two-hour class every day from Monday to Friday. She loved it. She made several friends and had a great time. She had an excellent teacher. They warmed up every day dancing salsa and cumbias. Then, they learned and practiced a couple of folkloric dances and they ended their lessons playing traditional Mexican games.

Para la clausura del curso, le tocó vestirse de tehuana y bailar la sandunga, un baile del istmo de Tehuantepec.

They had a recital at the end of the summer course and Carmen dressed up as a Tehuana to dance "la sandunga", a traditional dance from the istmo de Tehuantepec.

Isabel empezó a ir a clases de ballet ahora que Carmen regresó a sus clases. Le encantan.

Isabel started ballet lessons the day Carmen resumed hers. She loves them.
