What were you doing five years ago?
- Living in Florida.
- Doing my PhD in Hispanic Linguistics.
- Getting ready for my Quals and thinking about my thesis proposal.
- Saying good bye to a summer in Rio de Janeiro (my American visa was going to expire that summer and we couldn't afford to go to Mexico to renew it.)
- Got pregnant.

What are five things (in no particular order) on your to-do list for today?
- Kill some ants (not on my list but had to do it, my studio was swarming with ants.)
- Do the syllabus for one of the 5 classes I'm going to be teaching next semester.
- Photocopy some texts to make a course packet for one of those classes.
- Go to the grocery store.(Done)
- Pick up the girls at school.

What are five snacks you enjoy?
- Popcorn with lime and chile sauce
- Mango or Lemon sherbets, popsicles, or ice-cones with "chamoy."
- Fruits and veggies with chile powder
- Tortilla chips and guacamole
- Nuts, seeds and dried fruit

What are five things you would do if you were a billionaire?
- Open more libraries for children, like this one they just opened in Oaxaca.
- Create and support groups that work with children to promote human development through Art and Culture, like this group here in Tuxtla. (Well, I think I'll volunteer to help them, because I don't think I'll ever be a billionaire.)
- Open a bookstore.
- Live in La Paz, so the girls could see their grandparents more often. (Don't need to be a billionaire to live there but need to save a lot of money to build a house and live without a job for a while.)
- Travel all over the world.

What are five of your bad habits?
- Bite my fingernails.
- Go to the kitchen every 5 minutes -if I'm working at home- to grab something to eat.
- Leave my belongings around. My studio is always a mess.
- I'm addicted to Internet.

2. Peliculas
Me gustan las peliculas de Wim Wenders y las de Kenneth Branagh.

Tambien me gustan las peliculas donde sale Emma Thompson y en las que actua Gerard Depardieu. La ultima pelicula que vimos de el y Jean Reno fue "Tais Toi!" (2003) Buenisima!



2.Movies
I like Wim Wenders movies and Kenneth Branagh films.

I also like to watch movies in which Emma Thompson or Gerard Depardieu have played a role. The last movie we saw with this actor and Jean Reno was a French comedy called "Tais Toi!"

Steffi me invitó a participar en un juego que consiste en mencionar 8 cosas favoritas (trabajo, películas, ciudades donde haya vivido, series de TV, comida, websites, lugares y colores) e invitar a otros a participar. Pero para no hacer tan larga esta entrada, escribiré una o dos cosas por día. Y al final, escogeré a mis víctimas.

Steffi tagged me and I have to mention 8 favorite things (jobs, movies, cities where I've lived, TV programs, food, websites, places and colors) and tag others, so they can play. But, I don't want this to be a long post, so I'll be posting one or two things per day. At the end, I'll tag my victims.

1. Trabajos
Me encantó darles clases de inglés a niños de 3ro. de primaria en una escuela en el DF. Trabajé muy agusto con ellos.

Pero, prefiero dar clases de español y de linguística a nivel universitario. Por eso, estoy muy emocionada con las clases que estoy dando este semestre en la UNACH.

Sin embargo, mis trabajos favoritos han sido: 1) trabajar con mi asesor en la quinta edición del diccionario de español de la Universidad de Chicago; 2) trabajar como colaboradora en la traducción de Macbeth con la Dra. Enriqueta Gonzalez Padilla. Me encantaría tener nuevamente la oportunidad de trabajar en este tipo de proyectos.


1. Jobs
I loved teaching English to 8 year-old kids in an elementary school in Mexico City. I really enjoyed working with them.

But, I prefer teaching Spanish and Linguistics at the university level. So, I'm thrilled with the classes I'm teaching this semester at UNACH.

However, my favorite jobs ever have been: 1) working as an editorial assistant in the fifth edition of the University of Chicago Spanish Dictionary; and 2) working with Dr. Enriqueta Gonzalez Padilla, on the translation of Macbeth. I would love to have the opportunity to work in this kind of projects again.

Yo le voy a enviar una postal a mi abuelita. Debí de haber hecho esto hace mucho tiempo y no por un juego, pero bueno más vale tarde que nunca. Ahora haré esto regularmente. Se pondrá feliz de recibir postales de vez en vez en lugar de puros recibos y cuentas.

I'm going to mail a postcard to my grandma. I should've done that a long time ago and not because of a game, but better late than never. I'll start doing this regularly. She'll be happy to get a postcard in the mail and not just bills.

Hace unas semanas, Isabel encontró este disfraz de Peter Pan en la caja de disfraces y anduvo con el todo el día vestida como Peter. Estaba feliz, pues ELLA ES Peter Pan.

A few weeks ago Isabel found this Peter Pan custom in a box and she wanted to wear it all day long. She was really happy, because SHE IS Peter Pan.

experimentos/experiments

Por fin nos pusimos a hacer experimentos con un regalo que les dieron los yayos a las niñas en Navidad. Se entretuvieron un rato disolviendo pastillas de colores, agitando los tubos de ensayo, mezclando los colores y pintando cristales.


We finally made some experiments with a gift the girls got from their "yayos" (Diego's parents)on Christmas. They had fun playing with water, seeing how it changed colors, and painting some cristal rocks.

Donde esta Isabel?/peek-a-boo!

Isabel ha estado enfermilla. Nada serio, pero trae una tos que nomás no se le quita. Tuvo fiebre un par de días pero ni aun así paró de brincar, correr y esconderse por toda la casa.

Isabel has been sick. Nothing serious, but has a cough that just won't go away. She had a fever for a couple of days but that didn't stp her from running, jumping and hiding.
